EnSafe Presents at American Institute of Chemical Engineers Regional Meeting
Memphis Senior Health &
Safety Project Manager
Leo Old, EnSafe Senior Health & Safety Project Manager, presented recently at a meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), Mid-South Section, in Memphis.
Old discussed safe handling and management of flammable liquids. His presentation included discussion of case studies involving explosions and fires in industrial settings. He highlighted circumstances that led to the accidents, loss of life and injury, and subsequent investigations conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Old’s presentation also revealed safe methods for reducing the static electric charge that accumulates in flammable liquids to improve employee and facility safety.
“Fire and explosion hazards are inherent in industrial processes using flammable liquids,” stated Old. “Methods such as grounding and bonding, the way drums are filled, and the equipment used to dispense liquids can mitigate the risks to facilities and employees.”
The AIChE provides educational and networking opportunities to chemical engineering professionals around the world. The Mid-South Section serves southwestern Tennessee, northwestern Mississippi, and northeastern Arkansas.
