Two EnSafe projects earned
top category honors in the
American
Council of Engineering Companies
of Tennessee's 2008 Engineering
Excellence competition March 4 in
Nashville, Tennessee.
The top award in the environmental
category went to "Metal Management:
Engineering Revitalization." EnSafe was the prime consultant
for revitalizing the Metal Management
Nashville LLC (MMN) site, providing
expertise in the wide range of environmental
and traditional engineering services
needed to convert an industrial
Brownfield site for an environmentally
beneficial reuse. In essence, EnSafe recycled the contaminated
site in Nashville, Tennessee, so
paper goods and metals could be
recycled there. The MMN site,
occupied for almost 100 years by
a fertilizer manufacturer, was impacted
with lead and arsenic from historical
operations.
The top award in the studies,
research, and consulting engineering
category went to "Wetlands Investigation:
A Study in Cost-Savings." EnSafe helped the
U.S. Navy avoid
spending approximately $100 million
by cost-effectively completing a
wetlands investigation using less
than half the amount budgeted —
saving more than $1.3 million —
and then creatively using data-evaluation
tools to achieve a “no action” status. EnSafe’s innovations resulted in
a projected cost-avoidance of approximately
$99 million by eliminating additional
investigations, remediation planning,
and remedial actions at Naval Air
Station Pensacola, Florida,
Shaun Winter, PG, and Scott
Heflinger, PE, accepted the environmental
award while Allison Harris, PG,
and Paul Stoddard, PG, CPG, accepted
the studies award on behalf of EnSafe.
