EnSafe Inc.'s fast-track remediation of a contaminated site in South Carolina earned the environmental category award in the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina's 2007 Engineering Excellence competition.
Since 1999, EnSafe has won three grand awards and four top category awards in a similar Tennessee competition.
EnSafe not only shortened the time frame for readying the environmentally impacted Macalloy Superfund Site in an economically impacted community for beneficial reuse but also developed an innovative engineering design that fast-tracked the remediation of more than 170,000 tons of contaminated fill material and 2.75+ million gallons of groundwater.
EnSafe worked closely with Macalloy Corp. to take a 147-acre, Cold War-legacy site from its inclusion on the National Priorities List to remediation in less than six years -- about half the typical duration of the Superfund process.
This site received additional recognition from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in November 2006 as the 1,000th "Construction Complete" Superfund site in the U.S.
